Bruce A. Barket

Founding Partner

Mr. Barket earned his law degree from the University of Connecticut in 1986 and began his legal career as an assistant district attorney in Nassau County, NY, that same year. He entered private practice in 1992 and has dedicated himself to helping clients solve problems ever since.

A founding partner at Barket Epstein, Mr. Barket specializes in criminal defense matters representing individuals charged with serious crimes in both Federal and State courts. Over the past 20 years, Mr. Barket has secured acquittals in a long list of cases including securities and mail fraud, murder and racketeering in courts throughout the region. His tireless preparation and impressive courtroom skills have led to spectacular results for clients accused of serious crimes, as well as clients who, while represented by other attorneys, were wrongly convicted and imprisoned for crimes that they did not commit.

Mr. Barket’s experience in handling high profile cases is extensive. His long list of successes include securing the release of Amy Fisher, the Long Island teenager convicted of shooting the wife of her lover, as well as being part of the legal team who overturned the double murder conviction and secured the release from prison of Martin Tankleff, who was wrongfully convicted of killing his parents and spent 18 years in prison. Mr. Barket and the Tankleff legal team recently secured a $3.4 million dollar settlement against New York State on Mr. Tankleff’s behalf and are currently pursuing claims against Suffolk County in Federal court. Mr. Barket is a frequent commentator in the national media, appearing on CNN, CBS News, 48 Hours, Fox News, Court TV, USA Today, PBS and the New York Times. He has repeatedly been recognized by his peers for his work on behalf of his clients and has been honored with numerous awards in his field. He is a much sought-after lecturer at continuing legal education seminars, bar associations and law schools where he teaches various aspects of trial practice and advocacy skills to other lawyers. Mr. Barket has been selected to the list of 2014 New York Metro Super Lawyers.
