New York -- January 2025 -- Barket Epstein Kearon Aldea & LoTurco, LLP, a boutique criminal defense, appellate, personal injury and civil rights and commercial litigation firm with offices in New York City and on Long Island, is proud to announce that it has added another attorney to its growing team, Alexis Epstein.
Ms. Epstein joined the firm after working for the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office and the Legal Aid Society of New York City, two of the most prestigious public defender offices in the nation. There, she litigated cases in both Florida and New York State Criminal Courts, conducting hearings and trying several cases to verdict, including a felony gun case and an assault case involving sexual allegations for which she obtained not guilty verdicts. She also has handled more than 100 hearings and depositions.
During her time in the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office, she represented hundreds of clients charged with both misdemeanor and felony offenses in state court. These included complex criminal matters such as domestic cases, sex assaults, gun cases, DWI, and drug charges.
As an attorney at the Legal Aid Society, Ms. Epstein took on pivotal roles in high-stakes hearings and motions, where she achieved favorable outcomes for clients. She worked on many felony and misdemeanor cases and was asked to work on cases with the Legal Aid Society’s homicide unit, one of the most elite and highly trained units in that office.
Ms. Epstein is also highly skilled in motion practice, having filed and argued numerous motions that resulted in case dismissals and other favorable rulings. She is known for her deep commitment to justice and unwavering dedication to every client she represents.
She is admitted to both the New York and Florida bars. She is a member of the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers where she serves on the Conditions of Confinement Task Force, which was formed to improve conditions for inmates in New York State jails and Federal prisons. Prior to that, Ms. Epstein served on the New York State Bar Association’s Task Force on Incarceration Release Planning and Programs.
Ms. Epstein has dedicated her career to criminal defense and litigation. She also brings leadership skills honed as a collegiate soccer player at Hartwick College, where she played for four years on the college’s varsity soccer team. She volunteers her time in her community, working for groups such as Habitat for Humanity and Wine to Water, and has helped coach law students in trial competitions.
Ms. Epstein earned her B.S. and B.A. magna cum laude at Hartwick College and her J.D. cum laude at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University.
